Morir a tiempo’s point of departure was to avoid making just another exhibition, trying instead to explore different formats as ways of sharing private experiences and local stories with a global audience. The project consists of two songs recorded on vinyl and is made in collaboration with artist Sebastian Fierro
The BD Bacatá tower, one of Bogotá’s most controversial structures, served as a performative space for rapper Ángel Dumile to give his account of a tragic incident involving a young person’s jump from the top of the building, reflecting on death and its after-effects. Sometimes we have to go back to the end to find the strength to start once more.
As Dumile’s song on Side A comes to a close, it gives rise to something new on the other side of the record. On Side B, Colombian music artist Ana Lucia Zuluaga (Anónimo) continues Dumile’s journey to worlds beyond through her own interpretation of rebirth through music.
Though technically the tallest building in Colombia, the BD Bacatá has never been finished. It exists in limbo, caught somewhere between the permanence of the sky and the fleetingness of life below it. Morir a tiempo is an experiment in uncertainty, an exploration of what happens as we try and turn the inside out. When we fall from our dreams back to reality, will anything be there to catch us?
The vinyls is launched as an edition of 8 pressings and 2 artist proofs. Side A will contain a song by rapper Ángel Dumile and Side B will feature an experimental interpretation of rebirth by Ana Lucia Zuluaga (Anónimo). Each LP sleeve will be a unique work by Sebastian Fierro.
Morir a tiempo is a collaboration between artist Sebastian Fierro and curator Sandino Scheidegger, invited by SPREAD and hosted by the independent art space El Parche in Bogotá, Colombia. SPREAD project is curated by Jenny Diaz and Juan Betancurth is partly funded by Idartes (District Institute of Arts) and is now included within the agenda of the Red Galería Santafe.
Due to the coronavirus we decided that the record will not be publicly released for the time being. Updates soon.
