In Maya Rochat’s work, any process is a good one if it helps push photography into something other than an attempt to reproduce reality. For her, images should tell more than the truth. By compressing the images we experience collectively into her own dense, colorful language, Rochat creates works whose magic, in her own words, is all in the material.
