The Moment After the Show
In order to capture honest portraits of famous musicians, photographer Matthias Willi strategically positions himself in the right place at the right time: at concerts, he waits immediately backstage. Ready for the celebrity’s arrival, Willi photographs the subject within minutes of concluding the performance, before the artist falls back into character.
As Iggy Pop so eloquently suggested, “You got thirty fucking seconds…”

Thoughts
Matthias Willi’s images of the music industry’s most famous individuals undermine a business in which personal appearance is of utmost importance. By photographing his subjects in states of exhaustion and vulnerability, Willi documents rare expressions and moments of intimacy.
The exhibition was followed by the book The Moment After The Show, published by the artist and Rough Publications. Willi’s pictures were also featured in the Summer 2010 edition of DU Magazine.Information
